Ardersier --- p. 265 Fasti Ecclesiae Scoticanae Part V 1764 Walter Morison, AM., had his degree from the Univ. and King's College, Aberdeen, 29th March 1756, licen. by the Presb. of Fordyce 1st April 1761, ord. by the Presb. of Aberdour 1st Feb 1763, as missionary at Glenlivet, adm. to this par. 27th Sept 1764, he got the Church removed to another site about 1769. A petition from theLieut. Govenor and principal inhabitants of Fort George, to the Committee for managing the Royal Bounty, was laid before there Presb. "..., the Committee would grant a proper salary to mr. M., for encouraging him to preach in the Fort every Sabbath, at an hour not interfering with the parish kirk," which was "approved and recommended by the Presb." to the serious consideration of the Committee" 13th May 1777. Mr. M. died 14th May 1780, aged about 44 in 18th min., having been styled the Aristophanes of the North" or "the Witty Walter." He married, 6th May 1765 Anne Grant , who died 12 March 1788. Reg., Shaw's Hist., New St. Ace. xiv., Bc.] p. 434 WALTER MORRISON, born 13th Aug 1739, son of Walter M., min. of Deskford; M.A. (King's College, Aberdeen, 29th March 1756); licen. by Presb. of Fordyce 1st April 1761; ord. missionary at Glenlivet 1st Feb. 1763; adm. here 20th Sept. 1764; died 14th May 1780. He was chaplain to the garrison at Fort-George, and had the soubriquets of "Witty Wattie," and the "Aristolphanes of the north." He marr. 10th May 1765, Anne Grant (died 12th March 1788), and had issue----Colin, born 10th June 1766; Elizabeth, born 27th Oct 1767; Robert, born 27th March 1771; Lewis, born 3rd Nov. 1772; Margaret, born 26th Sept 1774; a son (name not in the Register), born 11th Jan 1776----[Bains Narnshire, 514.] |
