Note | 1902-1946: Automobile mechanic in town of Long Prairie Minn. Invented several items including a hitch similar to the one used on the long MTC accordian busses. Tried to sell the hitch to the Russians, but after receiving hitches they wouldn't pay, claiming that they were not proper size. -1949: His health was failing due to cancer. Died Sept 16,1949 in Long Prairie due to stomach cancer. Buried at St. Mary's cemetery, Long Prairie. Worked from house as a mechanic; used his garage. 1879- Immigrated to Long Prairie Minn with his father and mother in 1879. Before he started a care repair shop he worked in a sawmill. Death;Birth:Certificate, Todd Co., Minnesota, Village of Long Prairie. Certificate (and other records) shows birthdate as 9 Sep 1873. Letter from Leo Griep says Henry was nine years old when he sailed to US with his father and brother Ben (Bernard) and sister Anie (Anna). Also says his Ben (Bernard) was seventeen. Both ages differ from the 1900 Census. Other accounts say he immigrated at the age of five with his parents to Bruce, Todd County, Minnesota. |
