Note | Second daughter of Alexander Leith. Died without issue at Palmer's Cross, Moraysire, Oct 1855 and was buried in Elgin Cathedral. It was probably in honour of one of the thirteenth lairrd's wives that Robert Petrie (1767-1828), the famous Strathardle fiddler, composed the air known as "Mrs. Gordon of Abergeldie,: to which Mr. W. M'Combie Smith has writen a ballad called "A' for Love." It may be noted that Burns's song, "The Birks of Aberfeldy," was founded on an earlier song in which Abergeldie was the place mentioned. |
