Note | John Glazier of Woburn in Middlesex County, Massachusetts as early as 1663, and later of Lancaster in Worcester County--the immigrant ancestor of the New England Flazier families was born in England in 1640. His name appears on the list of taxpayers in Woburn in 1666. His name appears on the list of taxpayers in Woburn in 1666. He must have been a very desirable citizen as twenty of the leading citizens of the town, "to encourage him to remain" contributed each a portion of his land about to be divided. Fourteen gave an acre, one gave two acres and eight gave a half acre each "to be deducted from their several proportions of common lands about to be divided and to be laid out at Wyman Bridge, some on each side of the brook." John Glazier married Elizabeth George, daughter of John George, Jr., of Charlestown, Massachusetts. John George, Sr. of Watertown, Massachusetts was one of the Founders of the First Church in Boston, Massachusetts. John and Elizabeth (George) Glazier lived most of their lives in Woburn where seven of their children were born. They later removed to Lancaster where their son John had settled. His will was made Jan 10, 1687, and was proved Apr. 11, 1691 (MIddlesex County). The inventory of his estate is dated Oct. 29, 1688 at Lancaster. His wodow is said to have married a Mr. Pope of Lancaster. She was appointed executrix of her husband's will in which several other children were mentioned besides those recorded in Woburn. From the will abstract of John Glazier: The Home lot, of twenty acres, with the house and barn, and forty acres of ontervale across the river was left to his widow and to their two youngest sons, Joseph and Benjamin. The daughters, Elizabeth, Ruth and Mary, were to have five pounds each at marriage. To son Zachariah, a twenty acre lot and some meadow land. To son John, twenty acres of upland and four acres of meadow land. A similar provision was made for the son samuel, all lying at Plum trees. To George, the fourth son, fory acres. The inventory of his estate amounted to L125.5s. Most of the children remained at Lancaster and dwelt on the Neck. John, Jr. bought much of his brothers' lands, as shown by Worcester County Land Records. |
